BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 24. Over 155 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports during the first 8 months of the current Iranian year (March 20 to November 20, 2024), according to Trend.
The report states that 102 million tons of cargo were loaded, while 53.1 million tons were unloaded.
Additionally, during this period, approximately 71 million tons of oil and oil products were handled at Iranian ports, with the remaining 84.4 million tons consisting of non-oil cargo.
The report also highlights that 2.09 million TEU containers were processed at the ports over these 8 months, marking a 17% increase compared to the same period last year (March 21 to November 20, 2023).
Currently, Iranian ports have a throughput capacity of over 285 million tons, and efforts are underway to raise this capacity to 500 million tons.
In the previous Iranian year (March 21, 2023, to March 19, 2024), approximately 237 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded at Iranian ports, with a 10% increase in volumes compared to the preceding year (March 21, 2022, to March 20, 2023).
