Iran’s South Pars Gas Company achieves remarkable production milestone

BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 17. Iran’s South Pars Gas Company (SPGC) has processed over 16 billion cubic meters of gas since the beginning of the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through February 16, 2025), Director of the 5th refinery of SPGC, Kambiz Sefati, told local media, Trend reports.

Sefati explained that the processed gas from the 5th refinery has been transferred to the national gas network.

The official also mentioned that during this period, the refinery produced 119,000 tons of ethane, 430,000 tons of propane, and 240,000 tons of butane.

The company official added that projects aimed at environmental protection and reducing pollutants are being carried out at the 5th refinery.

The 5th gas refinery of the South Pars Gas Company processes gas and gas condensate transported from the 9th and 10th phases of the South Pars gas field. The refinery processes 56 million cubic meters of sweet gas, 80,000 barrels of gas condensate, 2,600 tons of ethane, 2,180 tons of propane, 1,250 tons of butane, and 240 tons of sulfur per day.

Meanwhile, the rich gas produced at the South Pars gas field is processed by the South Pars company. More than 75 percent of the gas consumed in the country is provided by this company. The company has 13 processing plants.

The South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar) is a joint gas field of Iran and Qatar. The proven reserves of the South Pars Gas Field are estimated at 51 trillion cubic meters of gas, of which 36 trillion are extractable. Iran's share in the field is 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of gas condensate.
