(IRNA) - Iran's Defense Minister Mostafa Mohammad- Najjar said here on Monday that United States policies on the Middle East have failed.

The minister made the assessment while addressing an annual meeting of senior officials of the ministry and its affiliated organizations and institutes, reports Trend.

Pointing to regional and international developments in recent months and the failure of neo-conservatives in the US mid-term elections early this month, he said: "US power is on the wane." He moreover said that instability, insecurity, terror and massacre of innocent people have been the bitter results of US interference in affairs of the region, particularly those in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"Today, Iran is sending the powerful message that it is ready to defends its inalienable rights in the international arena thanks to the spirit and dedication of the Basij (voluntary forces) and strong support of its faithful, specialized, efficient and hardworking forces," the minister said.

Mohammad-Najjar stressed that increase in deterrent power and defensive equipment, innovation, reshuffling of defensive infrastructure, research, development and an active defense diplomacy were among the hallmarks of the defense ministry.
