Nearly 500,000 metric tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) were consumed in Iran in spring this year, which corresponds to the first quarter of the current Iranian fiscal year.
LPG consumption amounted to 497,271 metric tons in the 3-month period, compared to 505,641 tons in the same period last year, Iran's Shana news agency reported on July 1.
LPG consumption was 5374 metric tons on average per day in spring this year, compared to 5437 metric tons last year.
Iran boosted exports of LPG sharply in the past Iranian fiscal year, which ended on March 20.
According to the Iranian Customs Administration, Iran exported $2.279 billion of liquefied propane, a 84 percent rise year on year. The country also exported $1.5 billion of liquefied butane, a 43 percent rise year on year.
Iran has bought 17 tankers for carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) over the past two years, said Mohammad Souri, the advisor to the Iranian oil minister for strategic affairs, on June 29.
"In the past, we could not export a portion of LPG and petrochemical products because of a lack of tankers. But, joining 17 new tankers to the national fleet has enabled us to boost exports of such products," he added.
