Fuel smuggling from Iran has decreased by 8 million liters per day during Hassan Rouhani’s Administration, started in mid-2013, Alireza Rajabpour the head of export and import department at the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC) Company said May 16.
He said that plunging oil price and taking hard measures in controlling smuggling led to lowering the illegal fuel export, but did not stop it completely, the official website of NIOPDC reported.
“Iran can offer some discounts for neighbours Afghanistan, Pakistan, Turkey andArmenia to encourage smugglers to export fuel legally”, Rajabpour said.
Before him, Behrooz Kermani, another top official of NIOPDC told ISNA on May 12 that currently the gasoline smuggling is about zero, but regarding the 5-time difference between gas oil price inside and outside of the country, the illegal export of this fuel continues.
Gas oil price in Iran is less than 10 cents per liter, while gasoline price is about $0.5/liter.
Before 2013, the smuggled fuel amount from the country to abroad was about 10 million litres per day, including four million litres of gasoline and six million litres of gas-oil.
