Iran’s possible purchase of Sukhoi Superjet 100 does not require an OFAC (the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US) license, an Iranian aviation official said.
The secretary of Association of Iranian Airlines, Maqsud Asadi-Samani, has said that Iran is a suitable market for Sukhoi and Iran’s possible purchase of Superjet 100 does not require any permission.
According to Asadi-Samani, the share of the US-made spare parts of Suprejet 100 is below 15 percent which means that the Russian company can independently sell the aircraft to Iran.
Sukhoi Civil Aircraft has earlier brought its Superjet 100 to Tehran’s Mehrabad airport to display the aircraft's capabilities.
In the meantime, a Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company (SCAC) spokesperson told Trend that the pilot SSJ100 made a planned landing in Iran on the way from Singapore, where the aircraft was presented at the Singapore Airshow 2018.
A group of Russian engineers have also arrived in the Iranian capital to present the aircraft to the airlines of the Middle Eastern nation.
Following the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA/ nuclear deal) in January 2016, Iran concluded deals to acquire 100 planes from Airbus, 80 from Boeing and 20 from ATR.
In the addition to the eight ATR, the country has already received three Airbus, increasing the number of Iran’s post-sanctions aircraft to 11.
However, the US approach to the nuclear deal has cast shadow over the fate of Iran’s deals to acquire Western aircraft.
