BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 1. Iran and Azerbaijan have an invaluable potential for the economic and trade development of our region, the Governor of Iran's West Azerbaijan Province, Reza Rahmani told Trend.
According to him, several useful meetings were organized with Azerbaijani businessmen within the framework of the visit of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to Azerbaijan. Along with the development of relations and economic relations between the two countries, new perspectives were also revealed during these meetings.
Rahmani said that Iran has cooperation in trade and economic fields with Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Arab countries located south of Iran, and there are new perspectives. On the Azerbaijani side, there are opportunities for cooperation with Russia and other countries to increase trade.
"So, there are two perspectives in this direction. The first is to increase relations and trade between Iran and Azerbaijan, and the second is to increase trade exchanges between the two countries with neighboring countries through Iran and Azerbaijan.
This can also play its role in increasing regional economic opportunities, transit and cargo transportation, and trade turnover," he added.
The Iranian Customs Administration data shows that non-oil trade turnover between Iran and Azerbaijan amounted to nearly 872,000 tons, worth $712 million during the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025). Trade turnover between the two countries grew by six percent in value and 9.4 percent in weight compared to the previous year.
