On September 8, the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights allocated limited mission of observers that will leave for Georgia to observe the process of local election in Georgia scheduled for October 5, Trend Special Correspondent in Tbilisi reports quoting the OSCE Office.
OSCE Office hopes that conducting monitoring in these elections will be useful. Taking into consideration the limited periods and after consultations with related persons, it was decided that the mission will not carry out systematic observation on the election day, the head of the mission Gert Akhrens told.
On September 5-6, Akhrens met in Tbilisi with senior officials of Georgia, as well as representatives of election administrations, political parties and civil society.
Several of them expressed their regret that the limited periods dont give them opportunity to hold a relevant campaign, the head of the mission said.
OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights urged OSCE member-countries to send 20 long-term observers to Georgia next week. The observers will hold the monitoring of pre-election campaign, dissemination of information in mass media, legislative base and its implementation, situation around mass media, work of the election administrations and relevant state bodies, as well as solution of questions related to elections.
