Sudan has freed four foreign detainees held since last month in its disputed border area with South Sudan, local media reported Sunday.
The release of the foreign nationals - from Britain, Norway, South Africa and South Sudan - follows mediation talks in Khartoum which began earlier this week, led by former South Africa President Thabo Mbeki, dpa reported.
At the time of their arrest, Sudan accused the four of "suspicious activities" in the region.
The United Nations and a Norwegian non-government group said two of the detainees worked for their organizations.
Mbeki has been attempting to broker peace through fostering a series of meetings between Sudanese officials and their counterparts in South Sudan after fighting in the oil-producing region worsened last month.
