( dpa ) - Two more bodies were found under the debris of a three-storey hotel that collapsed in India's western city of Ahmedabad, raising the death toll in the tragedy to 10, police said Monday.
"Workers found two more bodies during overnight rescue operations after the hotel collapsed on Sunday. Three others were rescued from under the rubble," police officer Parag Bhai Bhunjavi said by telephone.
"There could be more casualties as we suspect some people are still trapped under the rubble," he added.
Firefighters and civic personnel were clearing debris at the scene in the crowded Kalupur area in Ahmedabad, a principal city in western Gujarat state and a major commercial hub in India.
The hotel had capacity for about 120 guests and was fully occupied when it collapsed, the IANS news agency reported, quoting fire brigade officials involved in rescue and clearing operations.
The cause of the collapse was not clear, but could be due to structural defects combined with ongoing renovation work, a fire brigade official told the IANS.
