2 Taliban fighters killed in N. Afghanistan

Two Taliban insurgents were killed in Afghanistan's northern Kunduz province, a senior police officer Abdul Rahman Haqtash said Tuesday.
"The insurgents raided a police checkpoint in Qalai Zal district Monday night and police returned fire leaving two Taliban rebels dead," Haqtash told Xinhua.
He added that one of the dead Taliban is Qari Nazar Mohammad who was appointed as district chief by the fundamentalist outfit.
Taliban militants have yet to make comment.
The militants whose regime was toppled in late 2001 have vowed to speed up activities in Afghanistan this year.
