Chairman of the Caucasus Muslim Office (CMO) Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazadeh considers it possible to meet with the Armenian Catholicos Karekin II this year. He said this during a meeting with Azerbaijanis of Vladikavkaz, CMO press officer Rahima Dadasheva told Trend by telephone from Vladikavkaz.

"We, as religious leaders, have never been supporters of bloodshed and death. And therefore, we hold meetings and discussions. These meetings will take place in the future," said Pashazade.
He said much blood spilled during the Karabakh conflict.

"Today people are in captivity, a sniper bullet killed nine-year old child. This tells that the war has not over yet. But the Head of the Azerbaijan State is a supporter of peaceful resolution of this issue," said Pashazade.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts.
Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994.

The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
