Around 2mln sq m of Azerbaijani Territory Determined in October 2006

A total of 1,946,676 sq.m of Azerbaijani territory has been determined in October 2006. The Azerbaijan National Agency for Mining of Areas (ANAMA) informed Trend that so far they discovered and detonated 9,369 mines and unexploded ordinances (PHS). Twenty-two dogs, 138 sappers, 15 PHS operators, 8 urgent medical aid doctors and approximately 100 subsidiary employees were involved in the mine-seeking operation.

During its activities in Azerbaijan ANAMA has cleared the area of mines at a radius of 38,808,013 sq.m. The number of detonated mines and PHS totaled 79,971.

Fifty-one people have died and 116 received injuries as a result of 81 cases of mine blasts since September 2001.
