Azerbaijan, Baku, 25 February / Trend corr. S.Ilhamgizi / An election bloc will be established around the candidature of Sardar Jalaloglu, Chairman of the Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (DPA), Jalaloglu stated to Trend .
The DPA made the decision to nominate Jalaloglu's candidature during a meeting held on 16 February. The presidential elections will be held in Azerbaijan on 15 October 2008.
Jalaloglu believes that other opposition parties will support his candidature. However, Jalaloglu did not name these organizations. "We were proposed to establish a bloc to support the candidate from the DPA," Jalaloglu said.
The DPA was founded by Jalaloglu in 1991. The party took a radical position against the Government until 2007. In January 2007, the party took a new political course and improved relations with the authorities. Protesting against such actions Rasul Guliyev, the ex-chairman, and his supporters left the party and founded another party; the Open Society Party.
Jalaloglu nominated his candidature for the presidential post.
