Azerbaijani Opposition Party Hold Demo on Independence Day

Azerbaijan, Baku, 28 May / corr Trend E.Babayev / On 28 May members of the oppositional party Musavat held demonstration near the monument to one of the founders of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR), Mammademin Rasulzade, in Novkhani, outskirts Baku. Nearly 1,000 members of the party participated in the demonstration. Addressing the rally, they talked about the history of Republic and achievements of Rasulzade in the establishment of the first democratic republic in the East.

The first Democratic Republic of the East was established in Azerbaijan in 1918. Within 23 months of its existence, the ADR established its the, national currency, flag, coat of arms and government were created. Under the pressure of foreign countries, Azerbaijan lost its independence. This year Azerbaijan Democratic Republic sees its 90th anniversary is celebrated on the national level.

No incident happened during the demonstration.

Oppositional political party "Musavat" was created in 1992. Isa Gambar, the Leader of the party, was the speaker of Milli Mejlis [Azerbaijan Parliament] (1992-1993) and a presidential candidate at the 2003 elections.

Party was represented at Parliament by five MPs.
