Afghanistan, Kabul, 15 September / Trend corr. A.Hakimi / The United Nations top official in Afghanistan has denounced a vehicle-borne suicide bomb attack on UN road convoy in Kandahar province
Three people in the convoy were killed and more than a dozen others wounded in the assault that happened in the Spin Boldak border town.
The UN secretary-generals special envoy for Afghanistan and World Health Organization (WHO) representative Peter Graaff condemned the incident.
In a joint statement, Kai Eide and Graaff said several bystanders were caught in the blast and that they were seeking fuller information on their status.
A United Nations Assistance Mission for Afghanistan (UNAMA) driver and two doctors working under contract with the World Health Organization in combating polio in Afghanistan were killed in the bombing. All three were Afghan nationals.
"In the past hours we have been in touch with relatives of the victims. The thoughts of the entire UN family in Afghanistan are with those who died, and their loved ones. This attack was on innocent civilians working only for the people of Afghanistan, and is beyond comprehension," they said.
