European Commission Allots Georgia €16mln to Support Reforms in Criminal Rights

Georgia, Tbilisi, Dec. 18 / Trend corr N. Kirtzkhalia / The European Commission (EC) allotted €16mln to Georgia to support reforms in the sphere of criminal rights. The agreement was signed in the State Office of Georgia by Pier Eklund, head of EC office in Georgia, and vice premier Georgi Baramidze, state minister of Georgia on integration to Europe, on Dec.18.

According to Baramidze, it is indispensable aid from the EC which is directed to strengthen the institutes on protection of human rights.      

The indicated sum will be assigned within 2009-2010. Annually, €5mln will be allotted. Thus, €16mln will be transferred to the Georgian public budget and €1mln to definite assistance projects. This program aims to support criminal rights through strengthening law and human rights in Georgia. 

"This action of the EC indicates that we support your country," Eklund said.
