U.S., Georgia defense ministers meet in Washington today

The Georgian and U.S. defense ministers will meet behind closed doors in Washington today at 14:00, Georgian media reported.

"We hope to sign a framework agreement with the U.S. - a so-called charter - to bring Georgia-Washington relations on security and other matters to a new level," Georgia's Defense Minister David Sikharulidze said.

Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze and U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice are scheduled to sign the charter on Jan. 9.

The charter envisages cooperation between the two countries in the security, defense, economic, cultural and humanitarian sectors.
