Three police officers were killed and 8 taken hostage during an armed confrontation between the Taliban and national security forces in western Afghanistan.
Badghis Deputy Governor Abdul Ghani Sabary confirmed the incident.
Last night, a group of Taliban members led by commander Mullah Dastagar attacked a police checkpoint in Morchaq in Badghis' Balamarqab district, he said.
Sabary added that three police officers were killed and 8 taken hostage. He said there is no verifiable figure on the Taliban's causalities. Police reinforcements are heading to the scene following the confrontation.
Recently, after several suicide attacks throughout the country, the Afghan Defense Ministry announced that the Taliban has lost its ability to fight directly with the ANA. However, last night's ambush seems to contradict the claim.
