Deserted from Akhalgori part of South Ossetia, a Russian military requested the Georgian President to grant him political asylum. Russian Army's junior sergeant Aleksandr Glukhov made the request on Georgian television today.

Glukhov said he could no longer tolerate those difficult conditions of the Russian military in the territory of South Ossetia. "I ask the President of Georgia to give me shelter. I can no longer tolerate those hardships, to which Russian soldiers are doomed here. I hope I will be granted the asylum," he said.

Glukhov surrendered to the Georgian police a few days ago and was taken to Tbilisi. The sergeant admitted that he had been sent to the Georgia-Ossetia conflict are in August 2008. Later his military unit moved to Akhalgori, which was not under the jurisdiction of Tskhinvali. But today there are South Ossetian separatists and Russian troops.

Russian human rights organizations have repeatedly talked about the plight of the military in South Ossetia.
