The authorities should initiate dialogue between the government and opposition, former Kyrgyz Justice Minister and New Kyrgyzstan Party Deputy Secretary General Marat Kayipov said.
"The authorities must initiate dialogue between the government and opposition as they clearly have an advantageous position," Kayipov told Trend .
Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev held a news conference several days ago. He said he is ready to enter into a dialogue with even the country's most radical opposition.
Kayipov welcomes the president's willingness to speak with opposition parties and movements. He added that the authorities should not alienate the opposition.
"Otherwise, the opposition can be forced into hiding and radical actions may result," Kaiypov said.
The political situation in Kyrgyzstan is unstable. Last month, opposition forces sent an open letter to the president urging him to resign. They said Bakiyev failed to become a guarantor of the Constitution and led the country into a dire economic situation.
The opposition must obey the law, Kayipov said. He believes that a balance must be maintained during negotiations and discussions.
Such democratic behavior is important as the culture of political behavior is still foreign to Kyrgyzstan, he said.
"The main thing is to prevent the dialogue from becoming political bargaining," he said, adding that "too many politicians take politics as a kind of business to meet their selfish interests."
