The decision by the Popular Socialist Party and Progressive Socialist Party to unite has become a surprise for the Left Democratic Party (LDP). The Popular Socialist Party, Progressive Socialist Party and Left Democratic Party are represented in the Coordination Council of socialist parties. The Coordination Council was established in February 2009.
"The parties united in the Coordination Council have a right to make decisions themselves, and I respect this right. However, I don't understand why they have decided to unite. I will clarify this issue shortly," LDP Chairman Elshan Manafov told Trend on April 18.
On April 15, Popular Socialist Party and Progressive Socialist Party agreed to unite. Under the agreement, members and organization agencies of the Progressive Socialist Party will unite with adjusted agencies of the Popular Socialist Party. The Progressive Socialist Party former chairman Rustan Shahsuvarov became the deputy chairman of the Popular Socialist Party on public relations.
Manafov said that the unification of Popular Socialist Party and Progressive Socialist Party would have affection on their further activity.
The unification of parties will not influence the further cooperation with LDP, Shahsuvatov told Trend .
"We still failed to inform Manafov that the parties have united. The unification of parties will not affect the activity of the Coordination Council," Shahsuvarov said.
Two parties will be represented in the Coordination Council - the Popular Socialist Party and LDP.
Before, Shahsuvarov was a member of the Communistic Party of Azerbaijan (CPA). The Popular Socialist Party was founded in October 2008.
Elshan Manafov was the Secretary Chairman of the Socialist and Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (SDPA) on ideological affairs and a member of the Central Committee Bureau. He blamed the chairman of SDPA of incapability to manage the party, and was excluded from the organization. Manafov took a decision to establish LDP, which will be founded in autumn 2009.
