BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 11. The number of wage workers in Azerbaijan's economy reached 1.7 million as of March 1, 2025, with 878,500 working in the public sector and 880,300 in the private sector.
Data obtained by Trend from the State Statistical Committee indicates that wage workers in various sectors include 18.7 percent in education, 18.6 percent in trade and vehicle repair, 13.7 percent in industry, 8.5 percent in healthcare and social services, 6.5 percent in construction, and 6.4 percent in public administration and defense, including social security.
Other sectors, such as transportation and warehousing (4.2 percent), scientific and technical activities (3.9 percent), agriculture, forestry, and fishing (2.3 percent), as well as finance and insurance (2.3 percent), and other sectors (14.9 percent), also employed a share of wage workers.
Meanwhile, the average monthly nominal salary for wage workers in Azerbaijan's economy from January through February 2025 increased by 10.2 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 1,043 manat ($613.5).
The average salary was higher in sectors such as mining, finance and insurance, information and communication, scientific and technical activities, and transportation and warehousing.
