BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 14. Approximately 240,000 tons of pistachios are expected to be harvested in Iran in the current Iranian year (from March 21, 2025, through March 20, 2026), Jalil Karbakhsh Ravari, an official of the National Pistachio Association of Iran, told local media, Trend reports.
According to him, half of the pistachios in the mentioned volume are expected to be grown in Kerman Province located in the southeast of the country, and the remaining half in other provinces - Razavi Khorasan, South Khorasan, Yazd, Fars, Isfahan, Semnan, Qazvin, Markazi and Tehran.
Ravari said that so far this year, 120,000 tons of pistachios have been harvested in Kerman Province, 51,000 tons in Razavi Khorasan Province, 19,000 tons in Yazd Province, 11,000 tons in South Khorasan Province, 10,000 tons in Semnan Province and 9,000 tons in Fars Province.
He pointed out that this year is expected to be a productive year for pistachios, however, water shortages, droughts, power shortages and other problems will still negatively affect productivity.
For example, in some provinces, the power shortage varies between 20-50 percent, and the power supply in pistachio orchards is limited to four hours a day.
The official added that the country produced 220,000-230,000 tons of pistachios last year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025), of which 200,000 tons worth $1.7 billion were exported to various countries.
To note, pistachios are mainly grown in 8-10 provinces of Iran.
The average harvest of pistachios per hectare reaches nearly 400-600 kilograms.
