BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 1. The process of accepting old and unfit vehicles for recycling continues in Azerbaijan in accordance with the provisions of the Law on Waste, Trend reports.
Since the launch of the program last October, public interest has been high, resulting in over 10,000 vehicles being handed over to recyclers within just 11 months. The owner of the 10,000th vehicle, Elshan Humbatov, received the official certificate confirming the recycling of his car.
Based on the certificates issued for recycled vehicles, citizens have received 589 locally produced new vehicles at a discounted rate. In addition, one-time payments of up to 803,000 manat ($472,342) have been transferred to applicants’ bank accounts.
According to current regulations, vehicles must first be permanently deregistered under the Law on Road Traffic of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Relevant information is then submitted via the www.nvu.gov.az portal, and the vehicle is handed over to the recycler based on the electronic confirmation provided to the applicant.
The program operates voluntarily, with no mandatory participation. Currently, 3registered recyclers under the “Clean City” Joint Stock Company (ASC) operate in Baku, Absheron, and Ganja.
