A defilation at the rate of 0.7 percent was observed in Azerbaijan in March, the State Statistics Committee Chairman Arif Valiyev said at a news conference on April 10.
"A defilation at the rate of 0.7 percent was the result of fall of prices for foodstuffs and services," Valiyev said.
The defilation rate hits 8.3 percent within three months of this year, compared to the previous year.
In February, prices for foodstuffs and services reduced by 0.8 percent, compared to January 2008, and reached 10.3 percent in January-February 2009, compared to the same period in 2008, the Committee said.
In February, prices for foodstuffs reduced by 1.2 percent, nonfoods - by 0.2 percent and services - by 7.5 percent.
Compared to January-February 2008, prices for foodstuffs increased by 11.9 percent, nonfoods - by 8.5 percent and services - by 7.5 percent.
In February, the basis index of prices for foodstuffs hit 99.1 percent, and 112 percent in January-February 2009, compared to the mentioned period in 2008.
On April 10, the official exchange rate is 0.8032 manat to $1.
