Non-petroleum exports for Iran are targeted to reach $55 to $60 billion next year, the Dolat website quoted the country's industry minister as saying.
In a meeting next week, representatives of Iranian exporters will talk with the government about how to reach next year's target for non-petroleum exports (Iran's solar year ends on March 20), said Mehdi Ghazanfari, minister of industry, mines and trade.
Efforts are also being made to provide Iranian importers who currently have no access to dollars sold at the official rate with the national currency, said the minister. Banks, who provide dollars to importers have used the money allocated to them to pay for letters of credit opened in the last few months.
The government has been trying to stabilize its gold and foreign currency markets after the U.S. and the West imposed more sanctions against Iran. The country's central bank set the dollar's official rate at 12,260 rials but currency traders are selling it for up to 20,000 rials.
