The largest textile enterprises of the Ivanovo region of Russia and Uzbekistan will discuss prospects for joint activities and providing raw materials, Uzbek Foreign Ministry stated.
The discussions will be held within the framework of the visit of the delegation of the Ivanovo region headed by provisional Acting Governor Stanislav Voskresensky to Tashkent.
The delegation included heads of the largest textile enterprises of the region, including TDL Tekstil, Russky Dom, Teikovo cotton mill, Shuysky Sitsy and a number of others, representatives of the Agency for attracting investment in the Ivanovo region and executive authorities of the region.
The program of the visit includes a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Nodir Otajonov, within the framework of which the sides will discuss prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation between the Ivanovo region and Uzbekistan.
During the visit, it is also planned to visit textile enterprises, meet with the administration of the Uztekstilprom association, and visit the site for the First Russian-Uzbek Forum of Interregional Cooperation.
It was earlier reported that the Russian government had set up a working group, co-chaired by Stanislav Voskresensky, to implement integration projects in the textile industry with Uzbekistan.
Among the priorities of the working group is the preparation of a draft agreement between the governments of the two countries on cooperation in the textile sector, which will identify priority areas for activities and possible joint programs and projects, including creation of a logistics hub in the Ivanovo region.
In the 1H2018, Russia became the main foreign trade partner of Uzbekistan. The trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $2.83 billion, which is 16 percent of the total trade turnover of Uzbekistan ($17.7 billion). By the end of 2018, Uzbekistan and Russia plan to bring the volume of mutual trade to $6 billion.
According to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan, as of Jan. 1, 2018, there were 1035 enterprises operating in the country with participation of Russian capital.
In turn, 612 enterprises with participation of residents of Uzbekistan are registered in Russia.
