BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 10. The volume of nuts (pistachio, walnut, hazelnut, almond, etc.) and tropical fruits to be taken in Iran is expected to increase by 8 percent, during the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024), compared to last Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), said Dariush Salimpour, an official of the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad of Iran, Trend reports.
According to Salimipour, in total, 11.5 million tons of nuts and tropical fruits are expected to be harvested in the country this year.
The official added that the area of nuts orchards of the country is about 930,000 hectares, and on average, more than 650,000 tons of nuts, including pistachios, walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, etc., are harvested annually.
“In the next 5 years, it is planned to carry out work related to the restoration of 70,000-80,000 hectares of nut orchards in the country,” he said.
On average, 130 million tons of agricultural products are produced in Iran annually.
