Condensate Production in Azerbaijani Shah Deniz Field Dramatically Exceeds Overall Forecasts

Azerbaijan, Baku, 10 Dec / Trend corr. S.Aliyev / Daily condensate production in four production wells in the offshore Shah Deniz field now exceeds 48,000 barrels a day, while production at the first stage of the project was forecasted to total 45,000 barrels, a source close to the project said on 10 Dec.

The total gas production at the first stage of development of the Shah Deniz gas field in Azerbaijan will total 180bln cubic meters. Annual top gas production within the first stage of the Shah Deniz project will reach 8.6bln cu m. In 2008, gas production in the field is expected to comprise 7.7bln cubic meters.

The contract on development of off-shore Shah Deniz field was signed on 4 June 1996. The sides to the contract are ВР (operator - 25.5%), Statoil (25.5%), SOCAR (10%), LukAgip (10%), NICO (10%), Total (10%), and TPAO (9%). Total gas reserves in the field are assessed at 1.2trln cu m.

Gas is transported to Georgia and Turkey through the South Caucasus gas pipeline. Azerbaijan also purchases the fuel. Condensate is transported through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline.
