The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) will process liquefied gas at the Petkim petrochemical complex in Turkey, SOCAR head Rovnag Abdullayev said today. SOCAR is a co-owner of Petkim.
"The issue of processing Azerbaijani liquefied natural gas in Petkim was recently addressed. A great investment was invested. All the production processes were developed for the our gas processing," he added.
According to company head, gas supplies are expected to launch in April. A contract was signed with the Palmali FOR shipping company to transport operational gas to Petkim. Palmali has acquired a gas transporter for these purposes. The plant will processe annually 120,000-150,000 tons of liquefied gas.
According to Abdullayev, liquefied gas was previously sold to companies in Azerbaijan. In addition, the gas was exported for recycling companies in Europe via the Georgian port of Batumi.
Now the gas will be processed at Petkim.
Formerly, the Turkish Administration for Privatization approved the Socar/Turcas Petrol/Injaz Projects alliance as the winner of a tender on the sale of a 51-percent share of the Petkim Turkish Petrochemical Holding. Turkey currently imports 70-75 percent of the chemical products.
Petkim specializes in the production of plastic packages, fabric, detergents and is the only producer of these goods in Turkey, exporting one-fourth of the output.
Petkim account for a 25-percent share of the Turkish market.
