The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) exported about 1.32 billion cubic meters of gas in January-April compared to 635.5 million cubic meters in January-April 2010, SOCAR said.
SOCAR exported 305.3 million cubic meters of gas in April 2011 compared to 152.3 million cubic meters in April 2010.
SOCAR exports gas to Russia and Georgia within export operations.
The medium-term contract (with a possibility of extension) was signed between SOCAR and Gazprom in Baku on Oct. 14, 2009. According to the addendum to the contract signed in early September 2010 in Baku, Gazprom will receive 2 billion cubic meters in 2011, and over 2 billion cubic meters in 2012.
Supplies began Jan. 1 last year.
SOCAR supplies its own gas to Georgia via a pipeline linking the two countries in the Gazakh district of Azerbaijan as part of its activity on the Georgian market. Power flow of gas through this pipeline is 3 billion cubic meters of gas a year.
Azerbaijan and Georgia signed an agreement in November 2008 to create the possibility of intensifying SOCAR's activity on the Georgian gas market over the five years after 2009. According to the memorandum, SOCAR created the subsidiary SOCAR Georgia Gas to realize the project. It provides some groups consumer gas (social groups) determined by the Georgian government.
SOCAR and the Georgian government signed an agreement to transfer 30 gas distribution networks covering different regions in Georgia in December 2008.
SOCAR said in January-April 2011 the company supplied 124.6 million cubic meters of gas to Nakhchivangaz Production Unit. In April this figure hit 21.4 million cubic meters.
