State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) pumped about 2.11 billion cubic meters of gas into underground gas storage facilities in Azerbaijan since the beginning of gas pumping season, a source in SOCAR told Trend on Wednesday. Another 1.18 billion cubic meters of gas remained at underground gas storage facilities from last season.
There are two underground gas storage facilities in Azerbaijan - Kalmaz and Garadagh.
The source noted that 1.24 billion cubic meters of the total volume of injected gas accounted for Garadagh, and 877 million cubic meters for Kalmaz underground gas storage facility.
Currently the volume of gas in underground storage facilities of the country is more than 3.3 billion cubic meters. Approximately 1.83 billion cubic meters of this volume accounts for Garadagh, and 1.47 billion cubic meters - for Kalmaz underground gas storage facility.
The source said that at present the injection of gas into underground storage facilities is not performed. A partial selection of gas in the volume of four million cubic meters per day is currently conducted.
"However, it's too early to talk about the completion of the injection season," the source said..
Around 3.25 billion cubic meters of gas was pumped at the end of injection season compared to 3.05 billion cubic meters last year.
