Research should be undertaken to ensure that all of Iran’s domestic electricity demand is covered by alternative energy sources, Amir Dodabinejad, deputy of technical issues at the Renewable Energy Organization of Iran, told Young Journalists Club (YJC), Trend reports.
According to Dodabinejad, it can be hoped that, in order to reduce production costs, the use of renewable energy will increase in Iran in the coming years.
Dodabinejad added that, according to Iran’s 6th Development Plan (2016-2021), alternative energy sources should generate 1000 megawatts of electricity per year, and this figure should reach 5000 megawatts by the end of the aforementioned development plan.
In general, the devaluation affects Iran's trade agreements and impedes the implementation of projects, and, according to the deputy chairman, investors find alternative renewable energy fields attractive due to affordable prices.
"Many investors in the field of alternative energy are waiting for the country's economic situation and the prices to be stabilized," he said.
Dodabinejad said that the movement towards alternative energy in the world has just begun, but the production of these energy sources is less in comparison to fossil fuels.
"Iran gets three times the sunlight that Germany gets. With that being said, Germany's use of alternative energy sources far exceeds that of Iran's," he said.
