Uzbekistan's National Electric Networks company, which is part of the Ministry of Energy, had reached an agreement with Turkmenistan’s State Electric Power Corporation (Turkmenenergo), on the import of electricity in 2019-2020, Trend reports citing the National Electric Networks of Uzbekistan.
The company notes that since December 1, "there will be positive changes in the supply of electricity and the network will sharply reduce restrictions."
Blackouts began with the onset of cold weather in Tashkent and the regions of Uzbekistan. Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov said that more than 300 times, restrictions were imposed on 144 power transmission lines with a voltage of 110 kV over a period of 1.5 to 5 hours on November 27.
In addition, almost 31,500 cases of illegal use of electricity were detected; the damage is estimated at $2.3 million.
The Ministry of Energy announced a day earlier that some consumers were disconnected from the power supply in order to “avoid emergency situations”. The ministry also called "not to turn on electrical appliances without need."
Turkmenenergo is providing operation and maintenance of energy facilities, providing centralized supply of electricity and heat to consumers in the industrial and social sectors, as well as providing electricity export, construction, operation and repair of power plants and power lines.
