Over the past two years, 73 percent of electricity consumed in Turkey have accounted for renewables, Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Donmez said, Trend reports Dec. 13.
The minister noted that in the first ten months of 2019, the level of electricity generation from renewables amounted to 64 percent, which is a record high.
Donmez also added that the plant for the production of solar panels is ready, and it will start operating from the new year, noting that in late spring or early summer the production of the first domestic solar panels will begin.
Former Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Berat Albayrak said earlier that Turkey plans to invest $1 billion in the development of renewable energy sources in the country.
Albayrak noted that construction of new power plants will increase Turkey’s energy security.
The former minister added that the new project on the development of renewable energy sources will provide jobs for about 3,750 people.
