Socar New Energy, subsidiary of Azerbaijan’ state oil company SOCAR, has delivered 104,600 tons of diesel fuel produced by Rosneft to Ukraine in August 2021, Trend reports with reference to Ukrainian media.
Diesel fuel supplies from Russia to Ukraine dropped by 8 percent and stood at 183,200 tons in August 2021. Around 787,000 tons were imported via railways, 15 percent more as compared to August 2020.
Ukraine imported a total of 649,000 tons of diesel fuel, setting a record of two years. The country’s diesel imports rose by 23.3 percent as compared to August 2020.
Belarus accounted for the major part of the import growth in August 2021. Ukraine’s imports from Belarus raised by 20 percent as compared to August 2020, which accounted for 275,000 tons of 42 percent of the total volume of fuel imports. The country’s imports from Belarus in August rose by 57 percent and 18 percent as compared to June and July 2021, respectively.
SOCAR’s representative office opened in Ukraine in 2008. The company acquired about 20 Tala-Nafta filling stations in Odessa and Nikolaev regions. as well as Svitanok large oil depot in Odessa region in 2009.
The company took control of the fuelling networks ONIO (four filling stations in Kyiv and the region) and GFC (in Lviv region) in 2010-2011. SOCAR received permission from the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine to purchase 26 filling stations and one tank farm of the Kalina group in August 2012
SOCAR's investments in Ukraine as of 2020 stood at $300 million.
