Delays in the launch of each combined cycle power unit in Iran increase the daily cost by 90,000 euro, the Deputy Director of Iran’s Thermal Power Plants Holding Company said Hamid Reza Azimi said, Trend reports citing the company’s website.
Azimi stressed that there are currently 35 combined cycle power units being built in Iran. Delays in the launch of these units increase the country's costs by 3 million euro daily.
The deputy added that each combined cycle power unit saves 200-250 million cubic meters of gas per year. At present, each cubic meter of gas costs 13 cents.
“The launch of the combined cycle power units will increase Iran's electricity generation capacity, the efficiency of thermal power plants, and reduce fuel consumption,” he said.
As reported, the total capacity of Iran's power plants (thermal, hydroelectric, nuclear, renewable, and so on) is currently about 85,559 megawatt-hours. About 81 percent of which is accounted for thermal power plants.
The capacity of combined cycle power units is currently 31,179 megawatt-hours (36.4 percent), gas units – 21,992 megawatt-hours (25.7 percent), and steam units – 15,829 megawatt-hours (18.5 percent).
