BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 22. Azerbaijan's hydroelectric power plants (HPP) generated 2.9 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity in 2024, marking a significant increase.
Data obtained by Trend from the State Statistics Committee shows that this figure represents a rise of 72.6 percent compared to the previous year.
Meanwhile, thermal power plants (TPP) produced 22.3 billion kWh during the same period, which is a decrease of 2.5 billion kWh, or 10.3 percent, from 2023.
Additionally, the country generated 201.6 million kWh of electricity from waste incineration in 2024, reflecting a 5.6 percent increase compared to the year before.
To note, Azerbaijan produced around 26.7 billion kWh of electricity in 2024, which is an 8.7 percent decrease compared to 2023. The energy sector, including electricity, gas, and steam production, amounted to 1.3 million manat ($764.7) in total value.
