Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 24 / Trend corr. S.Babayeva / The number of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) subscribers of the operators of the Communication and IT Ministry of Azerbaijan have reached approximately 20,300, the Ministry reported.
The CDMA services in the network of Baktelecom and Aztelecom are available in 24 regions and cities of Azerbaijan. Of the subscribers, 9,000 falls on Baktelecom and others on Aztelecom.
In 2008 the Communication and IT Ministry of Azerbaijan invested AZN 20mln in the modernization of telephone network and introduction of new technologies in the regions.
CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) is a multiple access system with a code division. This is a wireless technology designed after GSM and for the time applied by QUALCOMM. CDMA which converts speech into digital information, which is then sent as a radio signal across a wireless network. Presented as a commercial product first in 1995, CDMA is one of the most rapidly developing wireless technologies in the World. In 1999, International Telecommunications Union chose CDMA as an industrial standard for the new 3G wireless system
Baktelecom, Aztelecom, as well as private companies Catel, Ultel and Aztrank provide CDMA services in Azerbaijan.
