ASTANA, Kazakhstan, June 7. Regular ferry services under the flag of Kazakhstan will be launched for the first time along the "Kuryk–Alat–Kuryk" route, said David Bezhuashvili, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Georgian Industrial Group, during a meeting with Nurdaulet Kilybay, Akim (Governor) of the Mangystau Region of Kazakhstan, Trend reports.
İn the course of the meeting, the parties also discussed an investment project aimed at developing ferry transportation on the Caspian Sea.
“A Georgian investor has built specialized vessels to provide regular freight transportation across the Caspian Sea. Starting from September 2025, these vessels will be operated by the Kazakh company MSC Middle Corridor Maritime, which intends to carry out, for the first time, regular voyages on the ‘Kuryk–Alat–Kuryk’ route under the flag of Kazakhstan. The route is expected to operate 8–9 times per month, and each vessel can simultaneously transport 54 trucks,” the regional administration’s press service reported.
In addition, the company’s fleet will be expanded by four more ferries, with two vessels added annually until 2027. Negotiations are also underway to expand cooperation with other ferry operators.
Moreover, Akim (Governor) Nurdaulet Kilybay noted that this initiative would give a significant boost to the development of regional logistics.
“This project holds strategic importance not only for Mangystau but for our entire country. We are always open to establishing partnerships with both foreign and domestic investors. Ferry transport increases freight turnover, promotes foreign trade growth, and allows for more efficient management of transportation flows. The regional administration is ready to provide comprehensive support for the successful implementation of the project,” Kilybay stated.
During the meeting, the parties discussed other investment cooperation issues, including the development of industrial infrastructure and partnerships in the agro-industrial sector. David Bezhuashvili expressed his intention to implement a number of projects in the Mangystau Region.
Kuryk Port is a modern, multifunctional seaport located on the eastern coast of the Caspian Sea in the Mangystau Region of Kazakhstan, 17 km west of the village of Kuryk and 50 km south of the city of Aktau. It serves as an important link in the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.
