ASTANA, Kazakhstan, September 4. Kazakhstan launched construction of a new desalination plant in Mangistau region, Trend reports.

The project is being implemented to provide drinking water to the residents of the city of Zhanaozen.
The construction of a sea water desalination plant in the area of Tokymak (Karakiya district) with a capacity of 50,000 cubic meters per day will fully meet the needs of the population of Zhanaozen in drinking water.
The construction work is planned to be completed by the end of 2024, with the planned date for the plant to reach its design capacity in the spring of 2025. In August of this year, the EPC contract was concluded with a consortium led by the international company Metito LLC together with Akzhol Kurylys LLP, Caspian HES Consulting LLP, SMK-Atameken LLP.
Earlier, the national company KazMunayGas had already launched a desalination plant at the Karazhanbas field (JSC Karazhanbasmunay, a subsidiary of KMG, Tupkaragan district of the Mangystau region).
