Kazakhstan significantly boosts volume of sea freightage in 1Q2024

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 16. The volume of sea freightage in Kazakhstan amounted to 654,000 tons in the first quarter of 2024, Trend reports.

As to data from the country's Bureau of National Statistics, this figure is 4.2 times, or 318.4 percent, higher than the same period in 2023.

According to plans, the volume of transportation through the seaports of Kazakhstan this year will reach 9 million tons.

Meanwhile, Kazakhstan's Aktau seaport handled over 1.1 million tons of cargo in the first quarter of 2024. This is 14 percent higher than the same period in 2023.

Furthermore, Aktau ports handled approximately 7,400 twenty-foot equivalent containers (TEUs), a 33 percent increase from the first quarter of 2023. This comprises 6,400 TEUs on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR, or Middle Corridor). This figure has climbed by 85 percent since last year.

Hence, the volume of sea freightage through the seaports of Kazakhstan amounted to 7.2 million tons in 2023, which is 11 percent more than in 2022.
