DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, June 17. A total of 68,597 tons of wheat were harvested in the Khatlon region of Tajikistan by the end of May 2024, Trend reports.
According to local authorities, this amount declined by 5 percent from the 72,367 tons harvested in 2023. This year, wheat was cultivated across 16,437 hectares throughout all cities and districts of the region, which is 1,223 hectares less than in 2023. The harvesting of wheat in the region will continue until the end of July.
In 2023, agricultural production in Khatlon totaled 35 billion somoni ($3.274 billion), which is an increase of 6.8 percent compared to the same period in 2022. Of this total, 24.6 billion somoni ($2.301 billion) were attributed to crop farming, while 10.6 billion somoni ($991.815 million) were dedicated to livestock.
Last year, Khatlon produced slightly over 1.08 million tons of cereals, which is 29,4000 tons less than in 2022. Conversely, there were increases in fruit production by 38,000 tons, potatoes by 2,000 tons. and vegetables by 143,000 tons.
