ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, June 1. The long-term plans for the development of electricity production in Turkmenistan provide for the transfer of existing gas turbine power plants from a simple cycle to a combined cycle, Trend reports.

This was stated by the Head of the Department of Foreign Economic Relations of the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan, Atageldy Mamiev, at the Gulf Cooperation Council-Central Asian Investment Forum, held in Riyadh city, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

According to him, proposals from experienced international companies are already being studied in this regard.

"Now the project of a new combined cycle power plant with a capacity of 1,574 megawatts has begun on the shores of the Caspian Sea, which will allow exporting electricity to the countries of the Caucasus and Türkiye through the Caspian Sea," he noted.

Mamiev stated that the Turkmen section of the high-voltage power transmission line along the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) route has been implemented due to the active participation of foreign investors

"With the help of loans from the Asian Development Bank, a project of a high-voltage power transmission line and substations in the direction of Akhal-Mary and Balkan-Dashoguz is being implemented as part of the creation of the country's circular energy system," he added.

Meanwhile, in recent years, Turkmenistan has actively pursued the development of electricity production, with a focus on enhancing existing power plants and constructing new facilities.

This strategic endeavor aims to bolster the country's energy capacity, foster stable economic growth, and improve the standard of living for its populace.
