ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, August 2. Turkmenistan's watermelon exports have increased tenfold in the first seven months of 2024 compared to the entire export volume of 2022 and ninefold compared to the total export volume in 2023, Trend reports.
According to the country's State Customs Service, the primary importers of Turkmen watermelons in 2024 were Russia, which accounted for 62 percent of the total exported volume, and Qatar, which received 38 percent.
Additionally, melon exports in the first seven months of this year have surpassed the total export volume of melons for 2022 by 1.2 times and for 2023 by 1.4 times.
A significant portion of these exports from January through July 2024 were directed to Russia, making up 79 percent of the total melon exports. Kazakhstan is also a major importer of Turkmen melons.
In recent years, Turkmenistan's farming sector has experienced substantial growth due to government reforms and investments.
The actions taken are aimed at enhancing technologies, boosting productivity, and optimizing land use, resulting in a notable rise in agricultural output. This has contributed to reinforcing food security and enhancing the economic prosperity of the population.
