President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has held a meeting on improving management in road transportation and expanding the transportation services.
The meeting set the task to continue reforms and provide modern transportation services.
In particular, instructions were given to introduce a new system of transportation services by the end of this year, according to which the provision of transportation services in regions will be transferred to private operators/dispatchers. Provision of motor vehicle transportation services on routes with low passenger flow was identified as the most important task.
It was noted that more than 30 percent of routes in the regions are inactive, in connection with which it is necessary to organize 13 automobile enterprises, to purchase 400 Isuzu buses this year and 780 Isuzu buses by the end of next year.
Also instructions were given to involve the private sector in freight transportation, to reduce licensing and authorization procedures for freight carriers, and to set up the activities of private freight forwarding organizations.
Special attention was paid to participation of domestic entities in cargo transit, development of infrastructure of main highways.
Tasks were set to conclude additional agreements with other states and large companies for transportation of goods through Uzbekistan, to intensify the use of Trans-Afghan, Trans-Caucasian, Trans-Chinese and other roads, to organize joint ventures with cargo carriers, to join international documents, and to develop an appropriate draft law.
Also, instructions were given to introduce information and communication technologies, including electronic fare collection system in the transportation services, and to develop the passenger transportation in the capital city in accordance with the standard requirements for large cities.
