BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 3. Uzbekistan plans to harvest about 2 million tons of grapes this year,Trend reports via Uzbek Ministry of Agriculture.
According to the ministry, ripening will begin from the first ten days of July, depending on the soil and climatic conditions of the regions.
Today, 17 different varieties of grapes are grown in Uzbekistan: "Husayni", "Rizamat Ota", "Toyfi", "Surkhak", "Kelin Barmok", "Korazhanzhal", "Ok Kishmish", "Kora Kishmish", "Kishmish Botir", "Kishmish Vir" , "Kishmish Sagdiana", "Alevtina", "Bayan Giray", "Riesling", "Kaberniy", "Muscat".
Meanwhile, back in February, Uzbek and Russian viticulture experts agreed to work on development of new varieties of grapes. Scientists of the two countries are jointly developing completely new seedless grape varieties for export.
In 2022, new vineyards on 50,000 hectares will be laid in areas of Uzbekistan specializing in viticulture.
On the existing vineyards of the country, the yield will double in the next three years and will reach an average of 3 million tons per year.
