TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, September 1. Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan are discussing potential for strengthening cooperation in several fields, Trend reports.
The issue was discussed during a meeting between President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Uzbekistan Shadurdy Meredov.
“Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan have great potential for expanding economics and trade relations, as well as increasing traffic and transit cargo,” Mirziyoyev said.
The Uzbek-Turkmen relations have been developing in politics, inter-parliamentary relations, trade and economy, transport, energy, water and agriculture, as well as the cultural and humanitarian sphere.
Moreover, Uzbekistan plans to sign a long-term contract for the purchase of Turkmen gas.
The trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan from January through July 2023 amounted to $492.4 million, which is 10.4 percent less than in the same period last year ($549.8 million). The volume of imported goods amounts to more than $383.3 million as of 2023, while Uzbekistan’s exports to Turkmenistan decreased by 18.4 percent and amounts to $109.1 million, compared to $133.7 million in the period from January through July 2022.
