BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 13. The crude steel production in Iran decreased by 1.6 percent during 3 months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through June 2024) compared to the same period of last year (from March 21 through June 21, 2023), the statistics of Iran's Steel Producers Association shows, Trend reports.
According to the statistics, Iran produced 9.03 million tons of crude steel in 3 months. Meanwhile, in the same period last year, the country's crude steel production amounted to about 9.18 million tons.
The statistics noted that Iran produced about 6.03 million tons of steel products during the 3 months. This also indicates an increase of 1.2 percent compared to the same period last year. Whereas about 5.96 million tons of steel products were produced in the same period last year.
Furthermore, the information notes that the country produced about 11.4 million tons of sponge iron during the 3 months. This means an increase of 14 percent compared to the same period last year. Thus, 9.97 million tons of sponge iron was produced in the same period last year.
The information indicates that 18.5 million tons of iron ore pellets were produced in the country for 3 months. The production of iron ore pellets increased by 5.3 percent compared to the same period last year. In the same period last year, the production of iron ore pellets amounted to about 17.6 million tons.
Moreover, Iran produced 32.1 million tons of crude steel during the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024). Iran's crude steel production increased by 5.5 percent compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2022, through March 20, 2023). However, last year's crude steel production stood at 30.4 million tons.
To note, Iran's steel production potential is about 40 million tons per year. Iran plans to increase its steel production capacity to 55 million tons by 2025.
